vs. Kathy WilliamsDaisy Lang
vs.
Kathy Williams

Rhein-Rhur-Halle, Duisberg, Germany
 February 5th, 2000
fight report for Women's Boxing Page
by Jon Fox

Champion Daisy Lang (115 lbs) fought challenger Kathy Williams (115 lbs) over 10 rounds for the WIBF World Junior Bantamweight Championship in Duisberg, Germany on 5 February, 2000

This was a bit of a lack-luster, uneventful affair but Williams won it on my card.

Unfortunately, the judges disagreed and gave it to Lang by 97-95, 98-91 and 97-94. However, the decision was booed by a significant section of the crowd.

Round 1

Williams started in lively fashion and staggered Lang with a good left to the head that almost put her down. She followed it up and had the champion in a mild amount of trouble. The German rallied towards the end but Williams tagged her again right on the bell.

Round 2

Williams kept the champion on the end of her southpaw jab for most of the round but was staggered by a left to the head right on the bell.

Round 3

Lang started to get her fight together and countered effectively with looping rights.

Round 4

There was a lot of shadow boxing in this round. Lang landed a good right early on but Williams was the more aggressive and opened up in the final seconds with a good combination.

Round 5

Williams landed the more effective punches throughout the round but just before the bell Lang threw A left hook. It was possessed of no great power and didn't hurt the challenger. However, she stumbled sideways and her gloves touched the canvas. The referee insisted that it was a knockdown and gave her a standing count.

Round 6

This was a very even round but it was Williams who caught the eye with a late rally.

Round 7

The champion took a good left to the head. She rallied with a couple of impressive flurries but Williams finished strongly.

Round 8

The fight came alive really for the first time in this round. Lang went after the challenger and tagged her with a good left. Williams was stung into a lively response but was caught again late in the round. She went back to her corner bleeding from a nick over her left eye.

Round 9

The challenger upped the pace, used her reach to good advantage and scored with a succession of head shots that repeatedly snapped Lang's head back. This was Williams's best round.

Round 10

Williams again used her reach well to score and keep Lang at bay. Lang did land a good right to the head but Williams landed the cleaner punches.
