5'9" welterweight/junior middleweight Heidi Hartmann was born in Emden, Germany on March 26, 1971.
Trained by Juergen Paterok, she has
competed as a kickboxer since 1998 and as a fully professional boxer since 2000.
She made her pro boxing debut on May 13, 2000 at Sartory Säle in Cologne, Germany,
when she TKO'd pro debut fighter Beáta Gulyás of Békéscsaba, Hungary at 1:00
into the fifth round of a scheduled six-round preliminary bout. Hartmann dominated
the action throughout and Gulyás took a standing eight in the fourth.
On July 1, 2000 in Berlin, Germany she won by a first-round TKO over Bettina Peli,
another debut fighter from Germany, in a scheduled four-rounder. Peli has not fought
again that I know of, and I am told that tis bout was fought in the semi-pro
"Shooting League".
On September 23, in Frankfurt/Oder, Germany she won a four-round decision over
Sybille Marcks of Kulmbach, Germany, who fell to 0-2.
On December 2, 2000 in Singen, Germany she won by a second-round TKO over Marianne
Klemmstein, another boxer for whom I have no previous fight record and who apears
not to have fought since..
On December 16, in Torgau, Germany she won a six-round decision in a rematch with
Sybille Marcks, who fell to 0-3.
On August 25, 2001 at Brandsweg SportHalle in Oldenburg, Germany, she
won the WIBF European 149-lb title by a fourth-round retirement of southpaw Iordana Sone
of Romania. Sone's corner threw in the towel just as the referee moved in to stop
the bout. Sone's record was reported in the media at the time as 10-5, but I could not
confirm any of these fights and I suspect this record included events other than
pro boxing.
On July 27, 2002 at the Scope Arena, Norfolk, Virginia, USA
#4 ranked Super Middleweight and WIBA Light Heavyweight champion
Jacqui Frazier-Lyde (166 lbs) of Philadelphia
TKO'd then #8 ranked Hartmann (166 lbs) at 0:50 in the third
round of a scheduled ten-rounder for the for the WIBF Intercontinental
Super Middleweight title. In her first pro bout against someone with a winning
record, Hartmann seemed wary of Frazier-Lyde's power and tried
to fight on the outside, but Frazier-Lyde's aggressive tactics kept her on her
back foot. Frazier-Lyde was soon able to wade in and land heavily to the
German's head and body. Midway through the third round, Hartmann was hurt by a
right hook followed by a quick barrage, and dropped to the canvas as the
referee intervened. The bout was stopped immmediately. Hartmann's team protested
the stoppage, claiming that the referee never checked their fighter's condition.
Frazier-Lyde is now 9-1-0 (9 KO) while Hartmann fell to 5-1-1 (5 KO).
Hartmann has continued to compete in WAKO kickboxing and sport karate throughout her
career as a pro boxer.
On May 29, 2004 at the Ostseehalle in Kiel, Germany,
Hartmann captured the vacant WIBF-GBU welterweight world title when a bout with
her former sparring partner and multipe world champion
Marischa Sjauw of Holland was stopped between the ninth and tenth rounds
due to a cut to Sjauw that happened in the sixth round from a clashing of heads.
A WBAN correspondent said that the TV commentator expressed surprise when
it was announced that Sjauw lost by a TKO. According to correspondent Ewan Whyte,
"Sjauw had her down in the first round and looked the more natural talent but
faded in the second half of the fight. A clash of heads cut Sjauw's eye in
the sixth round, de Wiele interrupted the fight in the seventh for the doctor
to look at the cut; and the fight resumed. Going into the tenth, however,
a second doctor, a woman this time, appeared on the ring apron, and stopped
the fight, not I think because of the cut, but because in her opinion Sjauw had
taken too much punishment – a decision the TV commentator (rightly or wrongly)
described as 'incomprehensible'."
On May 19, 2007 at Color Line Arena in Hamburg, Germany,
Polish-born Carolina Lukasik (153ľ lbs)
defended the WIBF Junior Middleweight title with an emphatic ten-round
unanimous (100-89,100-89,100-89) decision
over Heidi (150 lbs). The 36-year-old Hartmann fell to 11-2-1 (7
KO's) with this loss while Lukasik, now fighting out of Hamburg, improved to
7-0.
