Sjauw picks up world titles
on three continents

Netherlands superstar Marischa Sjauw continues to wreak havoc in her weight division in virtually every major women's sanctioning body.

After winning an insignificant IBA title with a unanimous verdict against former world champion Beverly Szymanski last September in Michigan, the Dutch Dynamo launched her assault on all the available world titles in her weight division in all major sanctioning organizations.

In a hard fought ten round contest with Russian star Zulfia Koutdoussova, Sjauw applied pressure throughout, literally chasing the Russian all over the ring to emerge with the split vote win. The bout took place on February 11, 2000 and Sjauw earned the prestigious IFBA World Lightweight Championship with the victory.

Sjauw's next encounter occurred on April 19th in New Zealand. This time the Dutch "Road Warrior" traveled half way around the globe to soundly trounce highly-regarded Kiwi Wena Karaka, pitching a near shut-out score over the best New Zealand had to offer. This win produced another world belt, the WIBF Light Welterweight hardware. Karaka holds the New Zealand and Australian (Oceanic) title, but her efforts to annex a world title were blunted by the hard-punching Dutch gal.

Two world titles in a bit over one month…. Are we done? Not yet! Next up, another trip, this time to Germany. Three weeks later "Team Sjauw" hopped aboard a DC-10 and ventured to Cologne, Germany to test local favorite Heike Noller (10-1, 7 KO's) for the WIBF 135-lb crown. On a Universum promotion, Sjauw dominated the German star, chopping her up and winning via the third round TKO route. Three world titles in little over three months.

What world titles remain for the Amsterdam "Wonder Woman"? With the exception of the nearly defunct IWBF, there are few worlds left to conquer. No credible organizations remain.

Sjauw's only comment was: "I think we probably need some more sanctioning bodies."

Marischa Sjauw welcomes email from women's boxing fans!
