Katia (Katy) Gutiérrez was born on April 29, 1989 in Los
Sinaloa, Mexico. She comes from a well-known boxing family that spans
generations of champions at the Betillo Gutierrez gym in Los Mochis,
all of them led to boxing by Katia's
Gutierrez. Katia promised she would become a world
champion to honor her late mother Guadalupe
Gutiérrez. She made good on that promise in the
year of her pro career.
Katia made her pro debut
fighting at 110¼ lbs on August 10, 2007 at th Polideportivo
Los Mochis, winning a four-round majority decision over Guadalupe
Cortes (119 lbs) of Juan Jose Rios, Mexico. Cortes fell to
0-2-1 with the
On November 16, 2007 at
Gimnasio Germain Evers in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico, Katia (108 lbs)
lost a four-round unanimous decision to undefeated Jasseth Noriega (112
lbs) of Mazatlan. Noriega improved to 4-0 (1 KO).
On February 22, 2008 at Parque
Revolucion in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, Katia (105¼ lbs) TKO'd pro
debuter Maricela Flores (108½ lbs) of Culiacan at 2:49 in the third
round of a scheduled four-rounder.
On May 24, 2008 at Gimnasio La
Bola in Guamuchil, Sinaloa, Mexico, Katia again defeated Guadalupe
Cortes, this time by a four-round split decision. Cortes fell
to 1-3-1 (0 KO's) and has not fought since.
On June 14, 2008 at Auditorio
Benito Juarez in Los Mochis, Katia (105¾ lbs) knocked out Flor
Verdugo (108 lbs) at 0:37 in the second round of a scheduled
four-rounder. Verdugo fell to 0-2.

Forum in Los Mochis, Katia (107 lbs) won a ten-round unanimous
(99-92,100-93,100-90) decision over pro debuter Yesenia Martinez
Castrejon of Palenque, Chiapas, Mexico.
On June 12, 2009 at
Polideportivo Centenario in Los Mochis, Katia (105½ lbs) won a
six-round split decision over Susana Morales (107¼ lbs) of Mexico City,
who fell to 6-5-1 (1 KO).
On October 2, 2009 at El Forum
in Los Mochis, Katia (108 lbs) again knocked out Flor Verdugo (111¼
lbs), this time in the second round of a scheduled eight-rounder.
Verdugo fell to 0-5 with this second loss to Gutierrez.
On November 13, 2009 at
Polideportivo Centenario in Los Mochis, Katia (103½ lbs) won a
six-round unanimous (59-55,59-55,59-56) decision over Mariela Catorce
lbs) who fell to 1-2 (0 KO's).

January 22, 2011 at Estadio
Neza in Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl, México, Katia (106¾ lbs)
lost a ten-round unanimous decision to WBC Youth
and International Junior Flyweight champion Irma "La Guerita"
Sanchez (106¾ lbs) of Guadalajara for the vacant IBF Junior Flyweight
title. Gutierrez attempted to go toe to toe
with the more experienced Sanchez throughout the
fight but was unable
to slow her aggressive and well-conditioned opponent
round onwards Gutierrez was forced to back up as she

Municipal in El Rosario, Sinaloa, Mexico, Katia won a four-round
unanimous decision over pro debuter Karla Mora of Mexico.
On September 10, 2011 at
Autónoma de Guadalajara, Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, Katia (105 lbs) won
a ten-round unanimous (100-90,100-90,98-92) decision over Olga Julio
(105 lbs) of Barranquilla, Colombia defending the IBF Minimumweight
title. Julio fell to 9-11-1 (6 KO's).

scheduled ten-rounder for the IBF Minimumweight title.
began the fight with a fast attack but was knocked to the canvas in the
fourth. She took an eight count and then tried to continue
referee soon stopped the bout. Abaniel fell to 10-3 (2 KO's)
while Gutierrez improved to 16-3 (4 KO's).

lbs) defended the IBF Strawweight title with a ten-round unanimous
(99-90,99-93,99-91) decision over Susana Cruz Perez (104 lbs) ofTlalnepantla, México, who fell to 11-5 (6 KO's) with the loss.
On April 19, 2013 at Arena Union in Los Mochis, Katia (105¾
lbs) won an eight-round unanimous decision over Kareli Lopez (107 lbs)
of Los Mochis in a non-title fight. Lopez fell to 5-3-1 with the loss
while Gutierrez progessed to 18-3 (4 KO's).

she returns to her
gym for sparring, mitt work and training with the
equipment through the afternoon.
