5'7" Patricia Demick was born Patricia Falfan in Chilé on January 26, 1972. She now lives with husband Doug in Hallandale Beach, Florida.

Patricia won her pro debut on March 26, 1999 at the Park Plaza Hotel in Hialeah, Florida with a first-round TKO over Karen Ramos (aka Christina Paulus) of Ashtabula, Ohio in a scheduled four-rounder, dropping Ramos to 1-1. Ramos/Paulus failed to answer the bell for the second round.

Patricia in her cornerOn April 30, 1999, again at the Park Plaza Hotel in Hialeah, Florida, Demick won by TKO over Rose Hampton, who was making her own pro debut. Hampton attempted to fight out of both a conventional and southpaw stance but Patricia responded with overhand rights and right hooks that brought the referee in to stop the bout in the middle of the second round. (Hampton hasn't fought since).

On August 14, 1999 at Loew's Hotel in Miami Beach, Demick moved her pro record to 3-0 with a stunning third-round TKO of previously unbeaten KO specialist Michelle Linden, of Pompano Beach, Florida who suffered her first loss in six pro fights. Linden was knocked down in the second and appeared to be out on her feet when the bout was stopped.

On December 8, 1999 at Club Crystal in Miami Patricia faced unbeaten 5'9˝" Daisy Ocasio of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico down with a good combination in the second round but could not overcome Ocasio's height and reach advantage or holding style and came out on the short end of a 58-55 decision in her first six-round contest. Correspondent Ryan Wissow told me: "Demick started out tentatively in the first round and Ocasio landed a couple of good right hands. Then in the second round, Ocasio got caught coming in and was floored by a right. Ocasio then resorted to some wrestling and holding, but was able to get some right hands in. Ocasio was the stronger fighter, and Demick was more polished, but Demick looked very tentative and she didn't throw her hands as much as she could have." Ocasio advanced to 5-0 (3 KO) with the win.

Patricia (back to camera) fights off Marsha ValleyOn February 11, 2000 at the Treasure Chest Casino in Kenner, Louisiana, Marsha Valley of Canada moved her pro record to 6-3-3 with a unanimous six-round (59-55, 59-55, 60-53) decision over Patricia. Valley's 5'10" height and ring skills were too much for Demick to overcome in this bout (picture at left)

On April 14, 2000 at Club Amnesia in South Miami Beach, Florida, she won a six-round unanimous decision over teenager Sharice Gray of Sarasota. My correspondent says that both fighters began to bang it out right away in the first round and both took hard punches ... but when the dust cleared Gray was down, and was saved by the bell. Demick boxed coolly in the middle rounds against Gray's longer reach. Gray's best weapons were her jab and overhand right but Demick was able to slip them and get inside. The last two rounds saw bursts of explosive action as Demick handed Gray a loss that evened her record at 1-1.

On May 26, 2000 at Club Level in Miami, Florida, Patricia moved her record to 5-2 with a TKO over Norma Cuevas of Orlando, Florida at 0:29 in the second round. Cuevas fell to 0-5 with this loss and hasn't fought since.

On December 15, 2000 at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Patricia (143 lbs) moved her pro record to 6-2 with 4 KO's with a TKO at 0:48 of the third round over Dawne George (146 lbs) of Lowell, Massachusetts. Demick dropped George with a right in the opening round. George fought back well at close quarters in the second but was wobbled by a combination shortly before the bell. Demick was too strong for George in the third and the referee stopped the bout with George wobbly. George fell to 4-6-1 with 3 KO wins.

Henin Wiet eats a left from PatriciaOn June 16, 2001 at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage, Alaska, she weighed in at 144½ lbs and battled WIBF Super Welterweight champion Valérie Henin (5'8", 146¾ lbs) of France to a ten-round majority draw by which Henin retained the title. The crowd of 500, which had favored Demick (at right in the photo), booed when judges Joe Macalosso and Tim Wood both scored it 95-95 while judge Allen Kreb had it 96-94 for Henin. Demick had finished the fight strongly but had cautiously kept away from Henin's effective jab in the early going. "If I would have closed more, I might have been better," Demick told Anchorage Daily News reporter J.R.Rardon after the fight, adding "I felt like I won the fight." Henin, an exprienced and feared world kickboxing champion who was fighting her first pro boxing bout in three years, moved her pro boxing record to 2-0-1 (1 KO), while Patricia slipped to 6-2-1 (4 KOs).

On August 23, 2001 at Chili Peppers in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Patricia (142 lbs) lost a hard-fought eight-round split (76-75,74-77,76-75) decision to fellow Floridian Karla Redo (144 lbs) of West Palm Beach for the WIBA Intercontinental Welterweight title. Demick outworked Redo on the inside early in the bout and knocked her down for an eight count in the second, but Redo landed more telling blows, particularly in the later rounds as both fighters tired. Redo improved her record to 6-1 (2 KO) with this win. A good fight by both boxers was marred when there was confusion over the judges' scorecards and the fight was first awarded as a split decision to Demick, then changed to the win for Redo.

Ryan Wissow, who was the WIBA representative at the fight, told WBAN: "The first round was a feel out round, and then Demick dropped Redo in the second round. What would transpire for the rest of the way was a very close grueling fight with both fighters landing bombs. When the decision was first announced, it was announced as a split decision, for Patricia Demick. So I put the belt around her waist, congratulated Demick and her team, then I walked out of the ring. Then I saw them call Karla back into the ring, and they took the belt off of Demick and put it on Redo! The announcer got the scores wrong. Karla Redo in fact had won the decision."  (See also Sue TL Fox's interview with Patricia's manager Bart Bruno.)

On May 7, 2002 at Nightlife Rocks in Little Rock, Arkansas: Patricia (138 lbs) advanced to 7-3-1 (5 KO) with a six-round split decision over Brenda Bell Drexel (142 lbs) of San Marcos, Texas who fell to 5-14-1 (0 KO). Demick started this fight cautiously against the always-aggressive Bell Drexel but began to step up her pace in the second round, landing some effective combinations while Bell Drexel counterpunched well. After a slow three rounds, with a lot of clinching, Demick stepped up her game again in the sixth, again landing with good combinations that prevented Bell Drexel from getting in close to tie her up.

Patricia battles Olga VlasovaOn June 15, 2002 at Miccosukee Hotel and Casino, Miami, Florida,  Olga Vlasova (137 lbs) from Siberia via Chicago, won by a TKO at 1:27 in the third round over Patricia (139½ lbs). Vlasova, a former world kickboxing champion, came out aggressively and pounded Demick with body shots against the ropes in strong performance that helped to stake Olga's claim as a title contender. Vlasova moved her pro boxing record to 6-0-0 (3 KO) with the win. (fight photo above by Sandy Goldberg).

On November 14, 2003 at A La Carte Event Pavilion in Tampa, Florida, USA, Patricia weighed in at 146 lbs and won a four-round unanimous (40-36,40-36,40-36) decision over unranked Kimberly Harris (146˝ lbs) of Tampa. Demick is now 8-4-1 (5 KO) while Harris fell to 1-2-0 (0 KO).

Patricia DemickPatricia says that she gets her greatest enjoyment in life from the hard training and disciplined lifestyle that's required of a boxer. Her training begins with a five mile surf run on the beach, then she goes on to gym work. Monday through Friday she hones her boxing skills, increases her speed, and develops her power by training at several different gyms including Warrior's Boxing Gym and Gerrits Leprechaun Gym. Demick spars mainly with male opponents, but she also has sparred with top-flight female boxers from Florida like Melissa (Salamone) Del Valle and Belinda Laracuente.

Weeks before a fight, Patricia's training is totally scheduled by Rage Boxing Management including everything from nutritional diets to specialized instruction for her upcoming opponents.

Patricia can be reached by email at bbestec@bellsouth.net.
