Buyer Beware......
By Sue TL Fox
(AUG 21) First thing to remember when buying things over the
Internet....Make sure that the people you are dealing with are reputable and
honest!
In June, I saw a set of tapes, that were on women's boxing advertised on
EBAY by seller Mr. Mike Cadman of the UK. I checked his references
on Ebay and he had good reviews.
The photo that Mr. Cadman had displayed on his auction page had a set of
video tapes with the same cover on each box, making it appear as if the
set of women's boxing tapes was an original set of tapes.
Because WBAN is always on the lookout for
what is going on throughout the world, I bought the tapes paying a hefty
price for the postage ($65.00 USD) to have them shipped
from the UK to the United States.
Even though the tapes were in PAL format,
WBAN was going to purchase equipment to view PAL tapes, and was very
excited to receive these "Thought to be" unique footage from other areas
of the world.
After waiting nearly six weeks, the tapes finally arrived. Even
Richard Lil'
Fox (inset photo) was excited to check out the tapes, but lo and behold,
excitement fell to disappointment in a flash when we opened the box.
ALL but one tape was pirated fights from
television where the majority of the fights were from the United States.
Four of the 20 tapes were not even of women's boxing, but of men's bouts that
were ALSO pirated off television, even though it said "Women's Boxing" on
the fake-you-out duplicate labels.
Even though Mr. Cadman finally conceded
that he had sold illegal tapes, he has yet to provide any kind of refund,
even though he said he would refund the cost of the tapes....Let's put it
this way, WBAN will not hold their breath at this point for a refund!
So Boxing fans beware---ESPECIALLY if you are buying from
unscrupulous characters who misrepresent what they are selling!
EXCERPT: EBAY'S RESPONSE TO
COMPLAINT FILED:
"Thank you for writing eBay. I have reviewed your report and
would like to assure you that we will take appropriate action in
accordance with our site policies. Such action may include issuing a
warning, a temporary suspension, an indefinite suspension or terminating
the membership. Due to privacy
concerns, I am not at liberty to discuss the details of any action taken.
I hope you understand this position and that it assures you that your
personal account history will always remain private."
Isn't that comforting to know that when
you make a complaint with Ebay that you are not at liberty to know the
outcome?
