Riley Stops Overmatched opponent
By Sue TL Fox
(MAY 5) Last night at the Trump 29 Casino, in Coachella, California,
Bridgett “Baby Doll” Riley, a Five-Time Kickboxing World Champion,
Former Boxing Bantamweight World Champion, ranked #7 to #4 in the world in
three prominent federations, sporting a 14-3-0
record (6KO), fought Nicole Gallegos, who came into the
fight with a 0-2-1 (unverified 1-2-1) record. Riley stopped Gallegos :58
in the third round.
When these low-grade matches
continue to take place in the sport......it is difficult to know exactly
WHO is to blame…..Does one blame the Commission for turning a blind eye to
the background of both boxers to fight, and decides to sanction a
fight that is a “no-win scenario” for the newer and inexperienced boxer?
Does one blame the manager of the new boxer, for poorly managing his
boxer? Or to blame the boxer for NOT having a manager to manage their
boxing career properly? Is it the fault of the SUPERIOR opponent, who is
clearly too experienced and who is CLEARLY looking for soft opposition? OR
Promoters, Matchmakers, etc., who are willing to fly in winless and
inexperienced opponents from far-away areas, to make these pathetic
matches, when there is legitimate and worthy opponents in the same State?
Regardless....This match last night did
little for women's boxing, and could have been a "one step forward,
two steps back" match for women's boxing. Hopefully Riley will
no longer say to the news media that women’s boxing is a
"Toilet" as she
did last year-----especially in light of the fact that she appears to be
compelled at times to take a swim in it...
(NOTE: I covered a fight ringside when
Riley fought Para Draine
in Portland, Oregon. There is no doubt that Riley could easily
be a star in the sport. Even though she lost to Draine that
night---it was one of the best fights of the night. It is TRULY sad to see
such a talented boxer take on some of these mismatches and overmatched
fights throughout her boxing career. She is much better than
that. Sue TL Fox)

May 6, 2003
(MAY 6, 2003) WBAN had an opportunity to speak with Team Salcido, about
Marilyn Salcido, 118, 9-4-3, who would have taken the May 4th
fight with Bridgett “Baby Doll” Riley. Salcido’s team told WBAN
that they were called about the fight with Riley, and they had decided to
accept the fight. Then surprisingly, a matchmaker called asking if
Mary Duron, 4-4-0, boxer who also trains with Salcido, was inquired
about for the fight with Riley.
