Salcido wanted fight with Riley…by Sue TL Fox
May 6, 2003 Photo Gallery of Salcido

(MAY 6, 2003) WBAN had an opportunity to speak with Team Salcido, about Marilyn Salcido, 118, 9-4-3,  who would have taken the May 4th fight with Bridgett “Baby Doll” Riley.  Salcido’s team told WBAN that they were called about the fight with Riley, and they had decided to accept the fight.  Then surprisingly, a matchmaker called asking if Mary Duron, 4-4-0, who also trains with Salcido, was inquired about for the fight with Riley.   After Team Salcido was just a tad bit confused at being offered the fight, and then being called to have Duron take the fight (which by the way is much lighter in weight than Riley), they were told that Riley was not “interested” in fighting Salcido.  Needless to say, Duron did not take the fight,  as for one, she is not in Riley’s weight class, and it was obvious that Riley was ducking Salcido. WBAN thought it quite interesting that  finding out about Salcido’s offer to fight Riley, when they both live in California, with being only 50 miles from the venue, and that  “someone” flew a winless boxer from New Mexico, to fight Riley instead-----when there was a perfectly competent, licensed boxer in the same weight class boxer in the same area.  Team Salcido told WBAN that they were  disappointed as to who Bridgett had accepted to fight because they feel that she is not only still a great fighter, but a great person.  Hopefully, promoters will make this great matchup happen on the NEXT card featuring Riley!
